Who Runs The World?

When I started my own marketing + copywriting business eight years ago, my reasoning for doing so was purely selfish—I loathed the 8 to 5 grind. And I believed there had to be more to life than working in a windowless box that took far more from me than it gave. Things like...

Walking the dogs on a warm spring afternoon.

Drinking a beer at 3pm.

Traveling more than 2 weeks a year.

Oh, there have been obstacles over the years. Difficult clients and not enough money and working far too many hours.

Moments I wanted to throw in the chips and take all my hard-earned skills to a cushy office in a high-rise—because at least I'd have a regular paycheck. Even though I knew it would be the wrong move—it sure seemed so much easier than whatever the hell I was doing most days.

The grass is always greener...

But when I discovered I was pregnant with a daughter, this crazy surge of empowerment grabbed hold of my soul and has never shaken loose.
And it forced me to take a hard look at where I was—versus where I wanted to be.
Not surprisingly...I had a ways to go.

So.

I found an incredible mentor that helped me re-shape my beliefs around tough topics like my self-worth—and how those beliefs were negatively impacting everything in my business. Even better, she taught me not to rid myself of my flaws but instead to recognize and embrace them.

Today my business is my happy place. I love sitting down in front of the computer, wondering who I'll get to meet or help. I get excited to speak to my clients. I'm ridiculously passionate about creating: marketing strategies, conversion copy, and digital products.

But perhaps most important? Is that my reasoning for running my own show has changed. Sure, a few selfish ones still exist. But there are also things like...

Walking the dogs on a warm spring afternoon.

Curling up with him to watch a movie in the middle of the day

And teaching her that women were made to rule the world.
